Why Jai Chose Fitness

Jennifer’s journey into fitness started from a place most people never see coming: addiction, illness, and a body that felt like it was shutting down on her.

  • In her early years, she was a drug addict and heavy smoker. Meth and cigarettes were daily habits, and health wasn’t even on the radar.
  • When she got off meth and became pregnant with her first daughter, her body swung from very skinny to rapid weight gain in just nine months.
  • She kept the same “junk food and soda” lifestyle: chips, soda, processed foods, and little awareness of what it was doing to her body.
  • By her second pregnancy three years later, she was diabetic—but she ignored the signs and symptoms, pushed through feeling awful, and pretended nothing was wrong.
  • During her third pregnancy in 2007, she had full-blown gestational diabetes that couldn’t even be controlled with insulin. Her blood sugar was so high that after her third daughter was born, she nearly ended up in a diabetic coma.
  • She remembers lying on the floor, the room spinning like she was drunk—even though she hadn’t had a single drop of alcohol. That was her wake-up call: a six-month-old baby, two other kids, a husband, a life she wasn’t ready to leave behind. Something had to change.

From that moment, she rebuilt her health step by step:

  • First, she started with yoga, easing into movement that felt manageable and kind to her body.
  • Next, she quit smoking, breaking one of the longest-running habits in her life.
  • Then she tackled her nutrition, going all in: she cut out almost every carbohydrate and shifted to a vegetable-and-meat-focused diet to get her blood sugar under control.
  • Through years of consistency and trial and error, she went from uncontrolled diabetes to an A1C of 5.2—no longer diabetic.

It took nearly a decade of fighting, slipping, and course-correcting, and she’s the first to say: “It wasn’t overnight, and it still takes work. But I got my life back.” At the same time, she was slowly moving into the fitness world professionally.

  • Due to kidney problems, she couldn’t teach high-intensity aerobics or hardcore classes for her age group.
  • Instead, she found her lane teaching Silver Sneakers and senior-focused classes—and discovered that working with 55+ clients was where her heart and talents came alive.

She’s now spent over 12 years training older adults, helping them move better, hurt less, and feel capable again.
